New to Milk Paint? Me Too.

Exploring a classic finish that’s new to Soleil & Sage but rooted in Fusion’s 35-year legacy

I’ve worked with just about every kind of paint out there—but milk paint? Until recently, that was one finish I hadn’t dipped my brush into. I always admired its soft, vintage vibe and the way it looked on layered, chippy pieces, but it wasn’t something I’d tried myself. That’s changing now, and I want to share the journey with you—especially because this beautiful line is new to Soleil & Sage.

Part of Fusion’s Family for 35 Years

What many people don’t realize is that milk paint has been a part of the Fusion Mineral Paint family for over 35 years. It’s deeply rooted in tradition, but has been reimagined for modern use. When Fusion decided to bring it into the spotlight again, they made sure it would be easy to use, beginner-friendly, and just as charming as ever. That’s what made me take notice—and finally try it for myself.

Testing It Out: My First Try

I kept it simple for my first run: a wood crate I picked up thrifting and a piece of scrap pine from my stash. I chose Acadia Pear—a soft, earthy green that felt like a nod to spring. The application was a bit different than what I’m used to. It’s thinner, more like a stain in how it soaks into raw wood. But that’s also what makes it special. It brings out the character of the piece instead of covering it up.

What Makes It Different (In a Good Way)

  • It’s ultra-lightweight – glides on like a wash and builds up beautifully.
  • It reveals texture and grain – especially on bare wood, which makes it feel organic and raw.
  • It’s customizable – you can layer it, distress it, and seal it with wax or Tough Coat depending on the look you’re after.
  • Cures in 30 Minutes - completely cured in 30 minutes how crazy is that!

Why It’s a Fit for Soleil & Sage

When I decided to bring Milk Paint by Fusion into the Soleil & Sage lineup, it was because I knew our customers would appreciate both its versatility and its rich backstory. It’s eco-friendly, non-toxic, low VOC, and absolutely gorgeous on pieces that deserve to shine in a subtle, timeworn way. Whether you’re going for rustic charm or modern cottage-core, this paint fits right in.

My Takeaway

If you’re like me—curious about milk paint but a little unsure where to begin—this is your sign to go for it. Start small. Embrace the quirks. And enjoy the process. Fusion has made this classic formula accessible for today’s creatives, and I’m thrilled to finally be offering it at Soleil & Sage.
